There are important steps that must be completed when buying a vehicle to drive in Michigan:

1. The title must be transferred into your name
    
2. The vehicle must be registered
   
   - Check with your insurance provider about the best coverage for the vehicle – especially if it will be used by a teen driver. You must have Michigan no-fault insurance to register a vehicle in Michigan. Out-of-state policies are not accepted.
    
3. You’ll need to either transfer or purchase a license plate
